When heading out with your newborn for the first time it is going to take you a lot longer than you think so give yourself plenty of extra time. From now on each trip will have to be planned and prepared for in advance, gone are the days where you can just pop to the shops. Taking your newborn out can be over stimulating for them, when exposed to bright lights, crowds, noise and different smells, so start of with short outings. The first time you take your newborn out; it can be stressful and overwhelming for you, it may be helpful to organise someone to go with you.
It’s best to avoid large, crowded, enclosed places until your baby is 6 to 8 weeks, so it limits their exposure to airborne germs that could be dangerous for their immature immune system.
What to pack for your newborn outing: –
- Disposable bags for dirty nappies
- Changing mat
- Baby wipes
- Cloth for wiping up spills and vomits
- Change of clothes
